Sean Thonson

Sean grew up — quite literally — with a camera in his hands. His father taught graphic design and photography at Humboldt State University, and at a very young age Sean took advantage of his knowledge (and his dark room) to begin a lifelong study of light and composition.

This passion led to a degree from Art Center College of Design and on to a successful career as a photographer and then as a director/cinematographer.

Sean loves telling stories visually and capturing images that are both iconic and personal. Throughout his career, he has directed spots for virtually every automaker in the world and a very diverse group of advertisers and their products.

Extreme sports and an ongoing exploration of the great outdoors are a big part of Sean’s lifestyle. His understanding of light and the ability to shoot action in nature is earned from experience. Sean loves what he does. He thinks it shows.
